About

This is an image of myself at about the time I first used the internet.

I have been playing videogames at least since the original arcade debut of Donkey Kong, Pac Man and Galaga, when I was a very young child.

I have since only become more serious and thoughtful as a videogamer. I believe at their best, videogames can be an art form and as meaningful as any other human creation. If I did not believe that I would have a difficult time justifying playing videogames at all (as opposed to, say, just spending more of my free time reading), let alone playing them for over 25 years.

I now live with my girlfriend, who is a videogame collector and maintains her own videogame related website. (Her domain also hosts my site, though our sites are otherwise unrelated)

Here's a picture of the two of us together:

Between the two of us, we own over a thousand games for dozens of systems. We at least have

-NES
-Super NES
-Genesis (with Sega CD)
-Saturn (American and Japanese)
-Playstation
-Dreamcast
-Turbo Duo
-Game Boy Color
-Game Boy Advance
-Nintendo 64
-Nintendo DS
-Game Cube
-Xbox
-Playstation 2
-Atari 2600
-Atari 5200
-Atari 7800
-Panasonic 3D0
-Sega Master System
-Game Gear
-Commodore VIC 20

Additionally, we have doubles of several of those systems, since our collections have combined, and to allow us to each independently play a game on the same system if we're so inclined. Neither of us have ever sold any game (or even gaming accessory), though we lost some of our collection due to a fire.

My gaming philosophy is centered on the notion that challenge is the most important aspect of a game. I have felt that to be axiomatic since I was a child (isn't the concept of attempting to overcome challenges central to the very definition of a game?) and have since only been more convinced of it. I now believe that the highest achievement of ANY art form is to challenge its creator, and to challenge its audience.

Concordantly, I am not very impressed with the notion of videogames as a timekiller.

My favorite system is the NES. A sampling of my favorite games includes

R-Types (Playstation)
Castlevania III (NES)
Final Fantasy IV (Super NES)
Super Mario All Stars (NES/Super NES)
Vagrant Story (Playstation)
Goldeneye (Nintendo 64)
Crystalis (NES)
R-Type Delta (Playstation)
Punch-Out!!! (NES)
Final Fantasy (NES)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Playstation)
MDK 2 (Dreamcast)
Super Mario Kart (Super NES)
